Kerrie Hess x Everau Papillon Loafers

Q. What is the best advice you can give to someone who would like to become an illustrator?
Definitely find your own style and go with it. Don't try and be everything to everyone. Your own uniqueness will be your point of difference. Take your time to develop this signature style; it will be worth the effort!

We had a chat with Kerrie about her inspiration behind our collaboration, her best fashion tips, and her career as an artist.

Q. What was your inspiration behind the Everau x Kerrie Hess Papillon loafer?
The initial inspiration was really about a vintage 70's aesthetic. Soft pastel pink, butterflies, and vintage gold were all part of my initial mood board when thinking about the Papillon Loafer design. I also couldn't help adding in a 70's print style to the packaging too. My work is usually set to a tone of the 40's and 50's so exploring a 70's feeling felt like something different. And although we wanted the shoes to be classic and gorgeous in design, comfort and design structure were also important. Both form and function had to come together.

Q. What are your styling tips for wearing the new Everau x Kerrie Hess Papillon loafer?
Being in a neutral tone and in butter-soft leather, the shoes are perfect with jeans and a white shirt or a blazer. They also work with cigarette pants or a summer dress. The gold stitched butterfly and vintage gold hardware are a little spin on a classic loafer. They are perfect for travel, meetings, or weekend style.

Q. What is your favourite aspect of illustrating?
I love that every day is different. Whether working on a brand collaboration like this one or teaching my own online students how to paint, no day is really the same as the last! I also love the feeling of having my own business, where I can create the kind of culture that I want to work in, in the office. We rarely have a meeting that goes over thirty minutes, and sometimes we do them walking, for example!

Q. What is your go-to spring style?
Most likely a midi or maxi dress in silk or cotton. I like to be able to move easily when the weather is getting warmer. On cooler days, I just add a blazer.

Q. What is something in your wardrobe that you can't live without?
A crisp white shirt. Perfect on a workday with denim, at the beach as a cover-up, or tied at the waist with a maxi skirt.

Q. What is the best fashion advice you have ever received?
'Buy less but buy better.' I really believe in investing in pieces that you know will last the test of time and seasons. I am always happier when my wardrobe has space to breathe. I also love to display my favourite things, the pieces that I really cherish. Just seeing them often sparks joy, even if I am not wearing them every day!
